European Commission publishes forest industries action plan

4 March, 2008
The European Commission has published a 19-point plan to address the challenges facing European forest-based industries.
In its Communication to the European Council and European Parliament on innovative and sustainable forest-based industries, the Commission has flagged up the need to secure access to wood raw material within the context of current energy policies.
It also highlighted the role wood products could play in public procurement policies, their carbon storage characteristics and the need to improve information to professionals and consumers about timber’s renewable nature.
The European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-BOIS) has welcomed the Communication. CEI-Bois has been launching activities aimed at securing the future of the European woodworking industries, especially within the context of its Roadmap 2010 action and climate change policies.
